Romania : British broadliner VIP Computers Centre, which is celebrating its 10th birthday with special offers for its resellers, has opened a sales office in Romania in order to better cover Eastern European market. This new office is the third of the group in Europe, beside the Netherlands and Spain. It is headed by Ionuţ-Marian Rădulescu, previously purchase manager for broadliner Romsoft.

Phoenix debuts SA language learning
South Africa : software specialist Phoenix Software is set to launch language learning programs for all of South Africa’s official languages. The first five languages – Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, English and Sotho – are set for launch within the October/November time frame, followed by the rest of the country’s 11 official languages. The South African languages are part of Transparent’s range of language learning software, which are distributed in South Africa by Phoenix (source : IT Online South Africa).

Cheating resellers to be reported to the police
Both major Danish broadliners Actebis and Rosenmeier have announced their intention to report cheating resellers to the police : "when a reseller goes bankrupt because of unfavourable times, that’s normal. But some of them are trying to cheating deliberately distributors. If we suspect that an insolvent debtor will serve his own bankruptcy and tries to cover its outstanding first, we are ready to notify him to the police for debtor fraud", explains Rosenmeier CEO Jørn Rosenmeier. An initiative which should be duplicated in many other EMEA countries, to deter bad initiatives, as many cheaters are perfectly well known by the industry and the channel press (source : Computer Reseller News Danmark).
More acquisitions for AB ?
Poland : broadliner AB SA has announced that it was ready for further acquisitions in Central Europe. Already present in Czech Republic and Slovakia through local offices of AT Computers, the company seems to have a huge interest in Romanian and Bulgarian markets, although any acquisition may not take place before a few months (source : IT Partner Polska).

Softprom expands on its 10th birthday
Ukraine : software specialist Softprom, which is just celebrating its 10th birthday, has recently opened a sales office in neighbouring Belarus, and is about to expand in Central Asia by opening local offices in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Softprom also owns a sales office in Moldova.
Algol on the phone with Konftel
Germany : network and security VAD Algol Europe has signed a distribution partnership with Konftel for its line of VoIP products. This partnership may be extended to other Algol offices in Europe if successful.

Russia : software specialist Aflex has signed a partnership with broadliner Merlion, allowing it to distribute Acronis products through its reseller network and thus greatly expanding the reach of the brand in the country.
Westcoast Ireland and Promethean deal worth €1 million
Ireland : broadliner Westcoast Ireland (formerly Westcoast Clarity) has won a distribution partnership deal with interactive learning technology specialist Promethean. The deal will see the IT distributor injecting investment worth €1m into its partner. Westcoast’s investment strategy includes the provision of additional employees and new facilities, Irish marketing campaigns and a nationwide channel partner programme for Promethean. Westcoast will sell Promethean’s ActivClassroom range of interactive educational technology products and software. Promethean’s appointment of Westcoast as its newest Irish distributor reflects the Irish market’s growth potential. Sales of Promethean’s ActivBoards in Ireland rose 225% between 2007 and 2008 (source : TechCentral Eire).
