EET in RAID with United Digital
Danish broadliner and sparepart specialist EET has acquired British RAID server vendor United Digital and its Mac-oriented brand Hive. The goal is to push its high-end products out of the United Kingdom. Thus, United Digital servers should be available soon to resellers in Europe through EET offices in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, while Hive products were already distributed in all countries.

Avnet burgled
United Kingdom : multispecialist Avnet Technology Solutions has admitted that servers stolen during a break-in at one of its Haslingden, Lancashire offices contained confidential data on staff, reseller customers and vendors. The staff details included addresses, bank accounts, sort codes and passport and national insurance numbers for employees that travelled abroad with work. According to the distributor, the risk posed by the theft is low. But stating the contrary would be surprising. The number of machines stolen or the amount of data on staff, employees and vendors was not confirmed by Avnet (source : The Register).

Ingram Micro names Alain Monié CEO
Broadliner Ingram Micro has promoted Alain Monié to CEO. Monié, who will also retain his current title of president, succeeds Gregory Spierkel, who will remain at the company until April 15, 2012, to assist in the management transition. Monié, a 61yo French national, is currently the company’s president and COO. He joined Ingram Micro as executive vice president in January 2003 and was appointed president of the APAC region a year later. He was promoted to president and COO of the corporation in August 2007 and resigned three years later to become chief executive officer of April Management, a Singapore-based pulp and paper industry giant. On Nov. 1, 2011, Monié returned to Ingram Micro in his current role, re-assuming his prior responsibilities : a nearly flawless engagement for someone who was groomed to be Spierkel’s successor. Before Ingram Micro, Monié was the head of LATAM operations at Honeywell International and APAC operations at Allied Signal, where he led the company’s expansion into China and India. Monié has been a member of the board of directors of Amazon since November 2008, and was recently elected to the board of Ingram Micro in November 2011.

Verdiem partners with Zycko
United Kingdom : network and storage VAD Zycko has added IT energy management and efficiency specialist Verdiem to its distribution portfolio. The new partnership allows Zycko’s resellers to help customers further optimise their IT estates, by intelligently managing the power state of business IT devices, resulting in energy savings of up to 60%. Verdiem recently launched its latest power management platform, Surveyor 6. It is designed to manage the power states of office equipment, and network devices running Cisco EnergyWise. It provides a heterogeneous overview of all the devices in an IT environment allowing administrators to intelligently manage the sleep patterns of equipment based on its actual usage. The Surveyor 6 also includes Wake-on-WAN, a feature designed to help IT managers schedule maintenance and test procedures, without having to leave equipment on that isn’t being used.

Wick Hill offers lifeline to Expand VARs
Following the recent liquidation of WAN optimisation specialist Expand Networks and the purchase of certain of its assets by Riverbed Technology, network and security VAD Wick Hill, a former Expand distributor, has announced that it would continue to support Expand customers in the United Kingdom and DACH region (through its German office) on an FOC and best endeavours basis. Additionally, Wick Hill, who recently announced it distributorship with WAN optimisation specialist Silver Peak, says it will also offer an attractive Wick Hill/Expand migration package for customers to transition from Expand to Silver Peak solutions, in conjunction with channel partners. This Wick Hill migration programme will vary, depending on specific support and product status. The savings, for example, will be different for customers not on support, but could provide relevant customers with up to a 40% reduction on the overall transition costs.
