Broadliner Asbis has signed a partnership with Griffin Technology, a vendor of accessories for home, mobile and personal technology. Asbis is now authorized to distribute Griffin’s assortment in 29 countries including Algeria, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Dubai, Egypt, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine.

Germany : consumer electronics specialist Comtech has expanded its portfolio with waterproof cameras from American vendor Liquid Image.
Woolley leaves AxizWorkgroup
South Africa : AxizWorkgroup CEO Doug Woolley is leaving the company to take up a position at Business Connexion (BCX), one of its clients. Woolley is the fifth senior manager out of 25 to leave the company within the past months. Woolley’s post will be filled in an acting capacity by Henry Ferreira, who was set to join AxizWorkgroup’s parent company, Pinnacle, as CEO of distribution this month. Woolley’s departure is a « disruptive » event and the company regrets losing its CEO. However, Ferreira is experienced and will join the company from one of its suppliers, according to Craig’s Brunsden, executive director of the company (source : ITweb South Africa).

Following the acquisition of Ztorm by retail specialist Gem Distribution, download specialist Metaboli is said by multiple rumors to be the next target for an acquisition in the distribution market. Distribution giant Arvato is the most rumored potential buyer, albeit strongly denying it. As download distribution is getting more and more important for major distributors, the days of independent digital companies is seemingly coming to an end. Other major potential targets are French companies Eptimum and Nexway (also present in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom).
MMD appoints Neoteric as regional distributor
India : Philips monitor licencee MMD has appointed broadliner Neoteric Infomatique as its exclusive distributor for South and West India. The company’s other regional distributors include Technocrat Infotech in the eastern part of the country and Global Infonet in the northern part of the country.
Tech Data invests in consumer electronics
Sweden : in order to drive its consumer electronic strategy in the country, broadliner Tech Data has hired Christer Schultzberg as Nordic CE division manager. Christer, who previously working for Media Markt, will initially manage a team of about 10 people, a number which should grow to 50 people split between Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden within the next few years.
