Ingram Micro expands into e-commerce services market with Shipwire

Broadliner Ingram Micro has entered into a definitive agreement pursuant to which it will acquire Shipwire, a provider of global fulfillment services for emerging multi-channel brands. The Shipwire platform provides on-demand e-commerce fulfillment and supply chain management from a network of global pick-pack and ship warehouses to more than 1,000 emerging brands and web retailers. Integrated into the top e-commerce platforms and based in Silicon Valley, Shipwire has pioneered cloud logistics with on-demand fulfillment center and shipping tools, Web services, and developer tools, that can all be used together to solve complex global logistics problems. Shipwire serves brands from more than 50 countries, selling to buyers across the world from facilities in North America, Europe and Asia. Shipwire will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ingram Micro. Damon Schechter, founder and CEO of Shipwire, will continue to lead the company as president of Shipwire, reporting directly to Robert Gifford, Ingram Micro executive vice president, Global Logistics. The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, is expected to close before the end of the year.

Logicom promotes Sajith Raj

Microsoft cuts UK distributor ranks

United Kingdom: Microsoft has cut the number of local distributors it works with as it continues on its quest to become a "devices and services" company. After concluding a distribution beauty parade, from 1 January next year the firm will move forward with five distributors in the shape of Enta Technologies, Exertis Micro-P, Ingram Micro, Tech Data and Westcoast. Ingram, Tech Data and Westcoast will appear on its Volume Licensing and Fully Packaged Product line-up -with Micro-P joining on the latter – while Enta joins Ingram and Tech Data on its Commercial OEM Windows and Server list. A new category – Commercial OEM Server Only – will be taken to market by Micro-P and Westcoast. The reduction in the number of OEM distributors is particularly stark, with six being cut to three. Avnet and VIP Computers are the two existing distributors whose relationship with the software giant appears set to end from next year (source : Channelweb UK).

IBM partners with OCS

Kazakhstan: already working together in Russia since 2010, IBM has extended its partnership with broadliner OCS Distribution to its young Kazakh subsidiary. OCS Distribution Kazakhstan is now authorized to distribute both IBM hardware and software solutions in the country.

Ingram Micro Europe launches Vertical Markets and Lines of Business Focused Reseller Enablement Curriculum as part of Channel Transformation Alliance

Broadliner Ingram Micro Europe has launched the third year of its pan-European Channel Transformation Alliance initiative. Working in close collaboration with IT industry leaders including HP, Microsoft, Cisco, Symantec, APC, Fujitsu, and more, Ingram Micro Europe has experienced strong response from its reseller, MSP, and ISV partner community who are actively transforming their business models to capture the opportunities with advanced technologies, mobility solutions, and IT-as-a-Service. The third year of the initiative, branded "CTA V.3", adds new relevant channel enablement training to help resellers, MSPs, and ISVs develop their expertise in vertical markets and implement sales and marketing approaches specifically targeting lines of business within end-user environments.

Ingram Micro Europe, together with all its vendor partners and its educational partners, SNIA Europe and SPC International, have grown the alliance over the last two years into a community of over 2,000 resellers who are actively downloading content on the portal (www.channeltransformation.com), attending business and technology focused webcasts, and participating in field-based events across Europe. The channel community benefits from free vendor-neutral education, primarily focused on sales, marketing, and service delivery content, all of which is delivered through the CTA training platform. Ingram Micro Cloud and Ingram Micro Advanced Solutions teams across Europe have conducted on average more than one field-based channel enablement event per week and per country in the past two years, including boot camps, workshops, roadshows, and roundtables.

Mustek opens fibre pre-termination facility

South Africa: broadliner Mustek has opened an optical fibre pre-termination facility to supply operators and installers with complete solutions built on m2fx's Miniflex fibre cable, microduct and protection tube range. This partnership between Mustek and m2fx aims to meet needs in the thriving regional broadband market. Through the new Mustek pre-termination facility, the company will provide completed fibre solutions to the local market, built from m2fx's components. Installers can then simply plug these in without needing to splice cables, thereby reducing lead times and speeding up deployments. To date Mustek has invested about €330k in its new fibre division.

Siphon will retain the existing staff and facilities at VComm and provide fresh investment into the business to increase the product portfolio and most importantly to continue to deliver professional and technical support services with all the products offered.
