Information Builders and Arrow ECS to expand market reach of self-service business intelligence solutions

Information Builders, a business intelligence (BI) and analytics software editor, has unveiled a partnership with infrastructure VAD Arrow ECS. The company will distribute two versions of WebFOCUS Express via its solution provider network, a software-only version for IBM Power Systems running Linux and an Intel version running both Linux and Windows. As part of the partnership, Arrow will also manufacture and distribute an IBM Power Systems Linux Appliance version of WebFOCUS Express in both North America and EMEA through its offices in Africa, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, Morocco, the Middle East, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Blue Turtle expands its security offering with Phish5

South Africa: software VAD Blue Turtle Technologies has expanded its current security service portfolio with the introduction of a comprehensive phishing risk assessment tool. Phish5 is a product of 4Di Privaca, a provider of information security. 4Di Privaca offers a variety of services which seek to minimise companies' exposure to risk, unnecessary delay. or overtly restrictive controls on online networks. By adding Phish5, Blue Turtle is looking to emphasise security awareness, and to offer a solution that addresses the risk phishing poses to an organisation. Blue Turtle believes that Phish5 will enable businesses to gain an understanding of their phishing risks. As a direct result of understanding these risks, these businesses will be able to improve the performance and operation of secure working environments by disabling the danger that phishing poses.

Avnet Technology Solutions receives VMware vCloud Hybrid Service Certification

Germany: multispecialist Avnet Technology Solutions has become certified for vCloud Hybrid Service (vCHS), making it even easier for resellers to port new and existing applications across to the cloud along with VMware. VMware vCloud Hybrid Service is a secure hybrid cloud service operated by VMware and built on the trusted foundation of vSphere. The service supports existing workloads, third-party applications and new IT developments by means of a joint platform to expand data centres seamlessly into the public cloud and control them once they’re there. Partners can easily integrate the vSphere-based public cloud services into their existing data centres, networks, new and legacy applications, and management tools. Using vCHS, partners can shift all or part of their data centre to the public cloud while keeping administration and control within their own auspices. Avnet's local VMware team is fully trained on the technical, sales and operations components specifically required for vCloud Hybrid Service certification.

Accessory Lab launches its own brands

United Kingdom: telephony accessory distributor Accessory Lab (the distribution business of etailer Mobile Fun) has decided to launch its own labels, Olixar and Encase. Encase is dedicated to cases, while Olixar will be used on speakers, external batteries and chargers, stylus pen and other accessories. The distributor is seemingly also able to provide white-labeled products to its resellers, if needed, thanks to long-standing relations with OEM and ODM in Asia.

Aries in partnership with GFI Software

Italy: software editor GFI has chosen network and security specialist Aries as official distributor for its SMB products in the country.

TD Maverick gets official with Newstar

France: AV VAD TD Maverick has started the official distribution of Newstar mounts through its installer and reseller network.

Lenovo launches its smartphones

Czech Republic: Chinese vendor Lenovo has officially launched its smartphone offer in the country, through its local official distributors, broadliners AT Computers and SWS.

Exertis Micro-P extends Logitech distribution agreement to Include its Business Solution offerings

United Kingdom: broadliner Exertis Micro-P has extended its existing distribution agreement with Logitech. Under the agreement, Exertis Micro-P will now offer its reseller partners Logitech business solutions that scale from small, medium, large to enterprise-grade capabilities. This announcement builds on the success Exertis has enjoyed to date distributing Logitech solutions through retail. Exertis Micro-P will now provide its reseller partners with access to a range of Logitech pointing devices and keyboards in order to address everyday productivity needs around the desktop or notebook. It will also make available its tablet accessories to help its reseller partners respond effectively to the BYOD trend, as well as a whole host of UC products, ranging from webcams, headsets, speakerphones and peripherals to optimise the end-user experience in UC applications.

A new division for Copaco

Netherlands: broadliner Copaco has opened a new BU, dedicated to LED lighting and home automation. The first brand for this new BU is digitalSTROM, a Swiss smart power switch vendor.

Another distributor for Dell Sonicwall

Ukraine: while it claimed it wanted to streamline its distributor network, Dell has decided to grant distribution rights over its Sonicwall security offer to multispecialist RRC.

Westcon UCC to distribute SpectraLink wireless telephones

Network and telecom VAD Westcon UCC has expanded its portfolio by signing a new EMEA distribution agreement with wireless IP phone vendor Spectralink. Spectralink DECT and Wi-Fi wireless devices are from now on available through Westcon UCC offices in Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

CBK gets serious on AV

Norway: decided to leverage on the strong growth of the local AV market, network and storage specialist CBK Distribusjon has opened a dedicated BU. The distributor has hired two specialists to address more efficiently the needs of resellers: Svein Erik Torgersen takes in charge the management of the team, while Joakim Arntsen becomes product manager. Both have a strong record on the AV market, with an experience built on their experience with several specialists.

France: Zalman has appointed PC component and peripheral specialist Acadia as official distributor for its full offer of PC cases, coolers, mice, etc.

Netapp expands its partnership with Logicom

Already working together in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen since more than a year, broadliner Logicom and storage vendor Netapp have expanded their partnership to Romania. This agreement allows Logicom to offer partners technical support and presales assistance, technology training and education, as well as logistics and financial services on Netapp products.

Alcatel Lucent appoints Omnilogic

Romania: VAD Omnilogic has been appointed official Business Partner by Alcatel-Lucent for its full data and voice offer.

Trackimo chooses ABC Data

Poland: American GPS portable module vendor Trackimo has inked a distribution deal with broadliner ABC Data. The distributor will push its products to resellers as well as local telecom operator, which could sell it with additional services to their clients.

Another brand for TCA Thomann Distribution

Switzerland: young security VAD TCA Thomann Distribution has been chosen by German company Cyscon to distribute its cyber-threat detection solutions in the country.

Mark Norman heads through Arrow exit doors

United Kingdom: Computerlinks UK doyen Mark Norman has seemingly called time on his career in the channel following the distributor's acquisition by Arrow. Norman has stepped down from the non-executive director post he was handed in the wake of Computerlinks' acquisition by Arrow last autumn and has retired from the industry. Norman effectively co-founded Computerlinks UK in 1996 when he relaunched Unipalm through a management buyout of UUNET/MFS/Worldcom. Having established itself as a distributor for Check Point just as the firewall market was booming, Unipalm sold up to Computerlinks in 2000 and rebranded under the Computerlinks moniker in 2006. Norman, who is now based in the US, remained chief operating officer of Computerlinks and served on its board until its acquisition by Arrow last October (source : CRN UK).
