Pinnacle sets sights on African business

Africa: broadliner Pinnacle Africa is expanding its business within the SADC region, launching a new business division under the Pinnacle Africa umbrella to facilitate growth north of the border. This will exclude existing businesses in Namibia and Botswana, with the short-term goal being an established hub operating from Pinnacle Africa's headquarters in Midrand and trading across the border in US dollars. The hub in Midrand will service and build the company's capacity to sell ICT products in surrounding African countries. This hub will begin servicing Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Angola and Malawi immediately with the long-term view being expansion into east Africa, headquartered in Mombasa and servicing the horn of Africa. The SADC business division will be headed up by industry veteran Vic Brits who arrives with extensive ICT experience in the Africa continent. Brits has a good understanding of Africa business, having lived in Lagos for two years while setting up a subsidiary for HP. His experience of managing multimillion dollar business units has lead him to focus on achieving business results by applying a collaborative approach, utilising all the resources available in an innovative, driven, and pragmatic fashion. He leads teams based on entrepreneurial fundamentals and coaching and exercises goal-specific oriented sales behaviour while developing solid long-term relationships with his customers. Brits has worked across all sectors within the IT industry over the last 25 years – from channel partner to locally owned distribution and international OEM (hardware and software) distributor for many of South Africa's leading IT companies – and is renowned for having developed and maintained longstanding relationships within the African IT channel and industry. "With business as usual with no major structural changes, the SADC region will conservatively maintain an economic growth rate of between 5% and 8% per year over the next 10 years," says Brits. "We are focusing on developing new markets for our wide range of products close to the heart of our operational hub in South Africa." He emphasises that the growing middle class in most of the fast growing countries in the SADC region are stimulating the economies in these countries and fuelling the demand for a wide range of IT and communication equipment. New infrastructure development by our neighbouring countries and large governmental projects in oil, gas and electricity generation will drive demand for proven systems and data centre solutions. Brits will report directly to regional MD Tim Humphreys-Davies.

"Expanding our product portfolio to include AppRiver's cloud-based security and productivity solutions was a strategic move," said Volker Ladage, co-founder and director of DCC Nederland. "The moment a partner signs up to resell AppRiver solutions, it becomes obvious the company is committed to their success. Partner tools, certifications, co-branding and 24/7 support is available. But the bottom line is that AppRiver's solutions serve a growing client need, stimulate new business opportunities and increase profitability." As new cyber threats and security requirements emerge, customers throughout Europe are looking to their solution providers for guidance on how to best protect their systems. "Our technology was designed to keep businesses productive and information secure," explains Rocco Donnino, EVP, AppRiver. Tarsus provides Storage as a Service offering

South Africa: through its location at Teraco, cloud VAD Tarsus Cloud on Demand is providing customers with a complete SAN and Storage-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering for any company within the Teraco vendor neutral data environments. Leveraging the SAN service offered by Tarsus Cloud On Demand, service providers, enterprise and SMB customers housed within Teraco can now leverage a full SAN infrastructure by simply installing an interconnect. An Interconnect is either a LAN cable or fibre connection that runs from one rack to another. The solution offers enterprise-class storage and has been built on Infinidat's high performance Infinibox, for which customers will only pay per GB per month. "This Infinibox solution allows us to move beyond the provision of cloud servers, and allows our reseller and ISP partners that are located in Teraco, the flexibility to cross connect and consume on a pure hardware requirement, within a cloud based and commercially attractive as-a-Service model," states Jonathan Kropf, CEO at Tarsus Cloud On Demand. "Customers and providers are looking for efficiency and scale in their storage solutions, we believe this offering, as well as its ability to deliver up to 2PB (petabytes) in a single rack, not only offers them the scale they need, but also the affordability they are looking for from cloud-centric storage," he adds. The Infinibox, solution offered by Tarsus Cloud On Demand delivers high performance enterprise storage, eliminates performance, availability and scalability issues, that in turn helps companies accelerate (time to) critical business applications. Through its high-speed fibre connection the company can offer 99.99999% SAN uptime as well as 300 000 + iOPS. The model by which customers can purchase their storage, namely per GB per month, enables them to scale up and down as their organisational needs change while purchasing on an OPEX basis, as opposed to continual CAPEX investment in upgrades or hardware refreshes. Furthermore the companies are offering customers flexibility in their deployment, with options that include either Fibre Connected/iSCSI or NAS deployment. As a result of the speed at which data can be accessed customers will experience little to no bottlenecks on workloads and have the ability, again based on the consumption model, to burst storage capacity when needed. "The Infinidat solution offers unmatched reliability and performance (99.99999% uptime) as a result of being built on an innovative self-healing architecture, it also provides high performance double-parity RAID and enables comprehensive end-to-end data verification. In short the solution is based upon a fully abstracted set of software driven storage functions that have been layered on top of very low cost commodity hardware. It is this that allows it to deliver an efficient data distribution architecture that then makes use of all drives, all the time, while being supported by a very large flash cache that delivers ultra-high performance. The savings one makes from using this type of solution can immediately be passed back to the customer. It really is the true embodiment and realisation of what cloud computing and cloud services should start offering customers," states Brendan Haskins, CTO at Tarsus Cloud On Demand.

Enta to launch white label cloud offering in 2016

United Kingdom: broadliner Entatech is preparing to relaunch its cloud offer, dubbed Enta Cloud. This will provide resellers with a new white label cloud offering and is set to arrive early next year. It aims to be a one stop shop for cloud, boasting cloud management, infrastructure, business apps, security, backup and storage as a service. Services include auto billing, customisable pricing, auto provision, support, auto management and of course, recurring revenues. It will also feature Office 365, and act as a single portal for licences, migration and support services with a single invoice. According to Dave Stevinson – who was appointed commercial director back in March – "Like everybody we've got a cloud offering, it's currently very poor and we're looking to make it better. One of the key challenges for any distributor is to have a cloud offering which works. We estimate in Q1/Q2 2016 we will launch our Enta Cloud, which will enable the IT resellers to have a white label cloud offering, powered by Enta Cloud. Of course it's important to the future of the company to have a cloud offering, so it's something we've had before which we've gradually built up over the past few months."
