Avnet signs global contract to deliver Lenovo’s training program

Infrastructure VAD Avnet Technology Solutions has announced that Avnet Academy, its training division, is expanding its education portfolio to include comprehensive training courses for Lenovo's System x and Flex products. This is now available to partners and their customers in all the countries where Avnet operates around the globe. Avnet continues to invest in delivering IT training and certification services, principally around the high-growth technologies that align with Avnet's solutions specialist approach. Lenovo is an existing strategic supplier for Avnet, and this agreement will further support partners and their customers to develop, implement and maintain business solutions that rely on Lenovo technology. IT education and certification training enables IT professionals to become more highly qualified. According to IDC, certified IT professionals take training at a far greater rate than their uncertified colleagues. The study showed that certified professionals are:

  • Almost three times more likely to take classroom training
  • Seven times more likely to take self-paced e-learning courses
  • Ten times more likely to take instructor-led e-learning classes.

Supporting the new Lenovo agreement, Avnet is running pilot partner programs to encourage the successful promotion of training. They will offer rewards for positioning training effectively, with the aim of driving accelerated growth in education services. In the EMEA region, Avnet is a Lenovo distributor in Austria, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

Arrow ECS offers advanced threat protection solution based on combined F5 Networks and FireEye Technologies

United Kingdom: infrastructure VAD Arrow ECS now offers channel solution providers a combined ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) security solution based on technology from F5 Networks and FireEye. Thanks to Arrow's extensive value-added services, which include pre-sales, implementation, and ongoing support, solution providers can now offer their end customers this comprehensive security solution. Non-inspected TLS (Transport Layer Security) data traffic represents a high security risk with regards to threats such as malware and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service). Traditional network infrastructures are either poorly or not at all equipped for encryption. This is where F5's BIG-IP platform comes in; it monitors TLS data traffic and filters URLs. It is joined by FireEye's NX appliances, which decrypt, check, and re-encrypt the data at every port.

Companies and organisations with high data throughout benefit from the combined functions of the BIG-IP platform such as health monitoring, load balancing, TLS offload, and FireEye's security mechanisms. The combination will optimally equip them against advanced persistent threats (APTs) even in demanding network environments. The solution can be extended with additional applications, including F5's Web Application Firewall, BIG-IP Application Security Manager (ASM), and FireEye's Intrusion Prevention System and Multi-Vector Virtual Execution (MVX) solutions.

Copaco acquires Thinfactory

Benelux: broadliner Copaco has acquired Zaventem-based cloud VAD Thinfactory for an undisclosed amount. Since 2011, Thinfactory supplies cloud services to businesses and organizations through a network of 150 partners. As a result of the acquisition, additional to its infrastructure in five Dutch data centers, Copaco obtains ownership of an infrastructure in three Belgian data centers with technical and commercial support of local staff. Iwan Kuijpers (CEO Copaco): "Thanks to the cloud services of Thinfactory we are better able to serve the Belgian market infrastructures with three Belgian data centers through which we ensure that the data is also stored in Belgium. The acquisition fits our strategic objective to deliver solutions across the entire ICT spectrum, logistics and value-added solutions in hardware, software and cloud services. Specifically for cloud services we offer a unique platform that provides automated provisioning and billing processes, with the support of specialist knowledge where appropriate."
