Avnet Abacus and PUI Audio sign European distribution agreement on audio components range

Avnet Abacus, an interconnect, passive, electro-mechanical and power distributor and a regional business unit of Avnet, has been appointed European distribution partner by PUI Audio, a provider of broadcast audio components. The deal extends the existing agreement between PUI and Avnet in the Americas. Avnet Abacus will provide design support to customers throughout Europe and its offices in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom on PUI Audio's range of acoustic audio devices, including the vendor's new Audio Sound eXciters, Slim-Line Micro Speakers and forthcoming Piezoelectric MEMS Microphones.

PUI Audio's new line of Sound eXciters transforms nearly any object into an audio generating device. Instead of relying on a diaphragm attached to the voice coil to generate sound, eXciters are designed to couple the voice coil directly to the inside surface of an object, transforming that object’s outer surface into an invisible, protected speaker. Without the need for mounting into an optimised enclosure or specialised chambering and venting to allow sound out, PUI Audio's eXciters can be mounted within hermetically-sealed packaging for waterproof/dustproof applications and afford more freedom for customers in outer case design. In addition, when the eXciter vibrates the surface of a product, audio is generated in a planar-wave fashion creating a more linear frequency response, meaning listeners can be positioned up to 90° off-axis of the excited surface and experience the same sound quality as a listener positioned directly in front of the excited surface. PUI Audio's Slim-Line Micro Speakers are designed for use where space is limited, such as in smartphones, tablets, laptops, as well as in wearable technology and IoT devices such as WiFi-enabled thermostats. PUI Audio will also soon offer Piezoelectric MEMS Microphones. Instead of following the design of traditional capacitive MEMS microphones, trapping air between layers, PUI Audio's piezoelectric MEMS diaphragm travels freely with sound making for improved fidelity and noise-rejection. With their IP68 rating, these new microphones are waterproof, dustproof, particle-resistant and shockproof. Also featuring a fast start-up time and low quiescent current draw, these microphones are ideal for use in nearly any application driven by voice capture and voice control.

"PUI's audio products undergo rigorous testing throughout manufacture, and customers are assured of the very highest standards of quality control across the range", commented Alan Jermyn, vice president of marketing for Avnet Abacus. "This partnership, founded on quality and service, is a key advantage for customers in Europe, with our product specialists located close by to offer design support for a range of sound requirements using PUI’s innovative audio components."

"Our experience with Avnet in the Americas has delivered excellent results, and we have every confidence in repeating this success in Europe by bringing Avnet Abacus on board as a European distribution partner", said Brian Coleman, global distribution manager at PUI. "Along with product innovation, our family business is built on superior customer service and quality. Avnet Abacus will be a great asset in ensuring that these values are met with efficiency and reliability, and with strong technical know-how, to support and help grow our customer base in Europe."

Avnet signs global contract to deliver Lenovo’s training program

Infrastructure VAD Avnet Technology Solutions has announced that Avnet Academy, its training division, is expanding its education portfolio to include comprehensive training courses for Lenovo's System x and Flex products. This is now available to partners and their customers in all the countries where Avnet operates around the globe. Avnet continues to invest in delivering IT training and certification services, principally around the high-growth technologies that align with Avnet's solutions specialist approach. Lenovo is an existing strategic supplier for Avnet, and this agreement will further support partners and their customers to develop, implement and maintain business solutions that rely on Lenovo technology. IT education and certification training enables IT professionals to become more highly qualified. According to IDC, certified IT professionals take training at a far greater rate than their uncertified colleagues. The study showed that certified professionals are:

  • Almost three times more likely to take classroom training
  • Seven times more likely to take self-paced e-learning courses
  • Ten times more likely to take instructor-led e-learning classes.

Hees Ham, vice president of Education Services North America at Avnet Technology Solutions, said: "we're providing our partners with tools and training to help their end customers accelerate their careers. Arrow ECS offers advanced threat protection solution based on combined F5 Networks and FireEye Technologies

United Kingdom: infrastructure VAD Arrow ECS now offers channel solution providers a combined ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) security solution based on technology from F5 Networks and FireEye. Thanks to Arrow's extensive value-added services, which include pre-sales, implementation, and ongoing support, solution providers can now offer their end customers this comprehensive security solution. Non-inspected TLS (Transport Layer Security) data traffic represents a high security risk with regards to threats such as malware and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service). Traditional network infrastructures are either poorly or not at all equipped for encryption. This is where F5's BIG-IP platform comes in; it monitors TLS data traffic and filters URLs. It is joined by FireEye's NX appliances, which decrypt, check, and re-encrypt the data at every port.

Companies and organisations with high data throughout benefit from the combined functions of the BIG-IP platform such as health monitoring, load balancing, TLS offload, and FireEye's security mechanisms. The combination will optimally equip them against advanced persistent threats (APTs) even in demanding network environments. The solution can be extended with additional applications, including F5's Web Application Firewall, BIG-IP Application Security Manager (ASM), and FireEye's Intrusion Prevention System and Multi-Vector Virtual Execution (MVX) solutions.

"In the light of increasingly complex attack patterns, F5 and FireEye are combining their security technologies to create a unique solution, backed by our value-added services", explains Patrice Roussel, vice president strategic alliances for Arrow ECS EMEA. "With the ATP solution, we are not only combining technologies but also tried-and-tested support structures, thereby offering the channel excellent opportunities in the rapidly growing cyber security and application delivery markets."

"As levels of data dramatically increase, unencrypted network infrastructures are far from sufficient to protect businesses against the constantly evolving threat landscape", comments Michael Schoenrock, director, channel and alliances, F5 EMEA. "The F5/FireEye solution monitors and filters data traffic, protecting companies and organisations against the spectrum of threats experienced in the market, including DDoS attacks and malware. We're excited to team up with FireEye on this offering and further enhance our relationship with Arrow."

"The challenge for customers is that there is a constant escalation in the sophistication of the attack, therefore the cyber security specialist is hard pressed to build and maintain the correct level of response", says Stephen Davies, strategic technology partners, FireEye EMEA. "When two market leaders like F5 and FireEye come together to build a solution it is a major contribution. With integrated implementation and support already in place, this solution is something customers can implement easily and quickly while significantly improving their security position."
