An acquisition for Ingram Micro and new partners for Axiz, Starlink and Tarsus

MEA: broadliner Ingram Micro has acquired the business assets of Dubai-based company Network Information Technology LLC (NIT), a distributor of physical security solutions in MEA (Middle East and Africa) region. NIT's current management team will operate as a business unit of Ingram Micro META (Middle East, Turkey & Africa), led by managing director Bassel Fakir, who reports to Dr. Ali Baghdadi, senior vice president Ingram Micro and chief executive Ingram Micro, META. Dr. Baghdadi commented: "with the acquisition of NIT, Ingram Micro gains a well-established foothold as a recognized expert in the physical security market, further expanding our capabilities in the rapidly growing and higher value Middle East and Africa market. NIT customers and vendors will benefit from an even greater breadth of value add services and solutions to help them realize the promise of technology. Our company cultures are well aligned and together we look forward to offering NIT’s high value solutions across META and expanding into new geographies."

Security VAD StarLink has become a certified member of the Pure Storage Partner Programme (P3) and will now distribute Pure Storage's All-Flash enterprise storage solutions to its customers in the region through its offices in Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Under the accord, StarLink will sell, install and support Pure Storage's products, through its extensive network of channel partners, to enterprise and government customers in the Middle East and Africa. Nidal Othman, managing director StarLink, said: "we see huge synergy between our data centre and cloud objectives and the simplicity and efficiency of Pure Storage's All-Flash portfolio. We are thrilled to explore the opportunity that this partnership will provide us as the MEA region accelerates its pace on the cloud journey."

Mobility accessory vendor Targus has appointed South African broadliners Axiz and Tarsus Distribution as its preferred master distributors for Southern Africa. Through the appointment of Axiz and Tarsus Distribution, the company aims to support the evolution of the mobile workforce in SA by putting all the tools and accessories they need within easy reach through providing the right peripheral and accessory support required. According to the manufacturer of computing accessories, both the selected distribution companies will serve corporate and retail markets regionally with the full range of Targus products. The range spans Targus' signature laptop and tablet cases, as well as accessories and peripherals including docking stations, privacy screens, laptop coolers, locks, styluses, and screen protectors amongst others (source: ITP Middle East and Channel Post MEA).

Targus appoints Axiz, Tarsus as distributors

South Africa: mobile accessory vendor Targus has appointed Axiz and Tarsus Distribution as its preferred master distributors. According to the manufacturer, both the selected distribution companies will serve corporate and retail markets regionally with the full range of Targus products. The range spans Targus's signature laptop and tablet cases, as well as accessories and peripherals including docking stations, privacy screens, laptop coolers, locks, styluses, and screen protectors amongst others. "Southern Africa is a significantly important market for Targus and we believe that the distributor partnerships with Axiz and Tarsus Distribution will enable us to grow our business and offer better service to the market place", said Mohamed El Aougri, sales director for Targus in the region. The company's objectives through the appointment of Axiz and Tarsus Distribution, is to support the evolution of the mobile workforce in South Africa by putting all the tools and accessories they need within easy reach through providing the right peripheral and accessory support required, adds El Aougri. "These partnerships are also a key part of our strategy to bring our Southern African operations in line with our global business, by moving away from exclusive distribution contracts, and preferring to maximise our market reach by aligning with multiple businesses that offer complementary strengths", he continues.

Axiz and Tarsus, he continues, offer an ideal combination of two quality business partners with very complementary distribution footprints, providing Targus with a strong route to market into the corporate, government, SME and retail sectors. Targus's long-term successful secondary distribution relationships with Pinnacle, Rectron and Drive Control Corporation remain in place, according to the company. "Targus launched the original laptop bag in 1983 and I think it's fair to say that Targus is recognised in SA as one of the bestselling and best performing laptop bag brands", says El Aougri.

Much had changed since 1983, El Aougri noted, with the rise of mobile connectivity, the growth in mobile workforces and the advent of hot desking means that South African office workers are no longer bound to one specific office or desk – and neither are the tools of their work. "We are looking forward to working with the Targus team to grow its South African market share, introducing its wide range of products to executives who demand the best accessories and peripherals to help them get the job done", says Pierre Spies, group CEO of Axiz.

Tarsus lifts stake in Tarsus Cloud On Demand to 100%

South Africa: IT distribution giant Tarsus Technology Group has bought the 49% of Tarsus Cloud On Demand it did not already own, as part of its strategy to be a leading player in the cloud computing and software as a service markets. Tarsus Cloud On Demand is a leading cloud enablement partner to the South African ICT reseller channel and enterprise customers. Following the transaction, Tarsus Cloud On Demand will benefit from the additional investment that it can use to grow its business, which focuses on delivering platforms, applications and solutions that help resellers, users and service providers embrace the cloud easily and in a cost-effective manner. The company has especially aggressive plans to ramp its software subscriptions business in the months to come. Tarsus Cloud On Demand provides a comprehensive infrastructure as a service platform for delivering a range of IT services from the cloud. It enables partners to resell its prepackaged solutions or build their own branded and customised solutions for their customers, without the need to make the significant investment in cloud infrastructure.

Says Jonathan Kropf, CEO of Tarsus Cloud On Demand: "Following Tarsus Technology Group's acquisition of a majority stake in our business two years ago, it makes sense to become a 100%-owned subsidiary of the group. New vendors for Westcon, Tarsus and First Distribution, and an acquisition for the latter

South Africa: infrastructure VAD Westcon Southern Africa has partnered with ZyXEL Communications to become a distributor of broadband networking technology in the Southern Africa region. Westcon will be targeting the small office/home office and the small medium business (SMB) market, a vertical in which the company has not been able to play in terms of a full broadband, cost-effective switching portfolio for some time. Broadliner Tarsus Distribution has been granted by Dell with official distribution rights for its Dell Enterprise software solutions. Finally, the week has been rich in announcements for infrastructure VAD First Distribution. The distributor has been appointed as a distribution partner in South Africa and the SADC region for Avaya. The two companies will focus on making Avaya's innovative technology available as cloud-based or hosted offerings across the region. First Distribution will work with cloud service providers and managed service providers to build out Avaya's Unified Communications-as-a-Service, Contact Centre-as-a-Service, and Video-as-a-Service offerings and make them available as local offerings across the region. First Distribution will also offer the complete range of Avaya solutions, including Avaya's innovative networking and wireless offerings. The distributor has also acquired Linux Warehouse, which will become its open source division. The acquisition comes as a response by the distributor to the increased demand of enterprise open source software adoption by industry, and extends First Distribution's ability to service its network of resellers with open source business solutions. As First Distribution's subsidiary, Linux Warehouse will grow its staff complement into a broader team of experts, adding value via an expansion of brand, sales and marketing specialists. Linux Warehouse's current portfolio includes Red Hat (open source technologies for the enterprise), SUSE (software infrastructure solutions optimised for computing environments and industries), Zimbra (e-mail collaboration and web client) and MongoDB (a leading big data database). Unify appoints Tarsus Distribution to drive market share

Telecommunication vendor Unify has appointed South African broadliner Tarsus Distribution as its distributor for Southern Africa, and in line with its commitment to expanding its channel business in the region has established a local Unify Office in South Africa under the leadership of Bryan Thompson as country manager.

The company will partner with Tarsus Distribution to develop brand awareness and grow market share within the region thanks to Tarsus offices in Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia over the months to come as part of its transition to a software and services-based organisation.

Tarsus Distribution will work with Unify's newly-established office in Bryanston, Johannesburg to deliver integrated communications solutions to resellers and their customers.
