He has been replaced by former Sainsbury’s mobile telecoms buyer Gareth Goddard. Hankey joined the Marlow-based hardware distributor in June 2007, in which time has seen the introduction of the Platinum Club for its reseller partners, which offers them a number of benefits to increase sales in the market while hosting bi-annual conferences. Prior to joining Data Select, he had been a senior buyer at 20:20 Logistics, where he was responsible for all areas of procurement for a number of Tier 1 manufacturers.

Finally, AV broadliner Midwich has used summer to strengthen its portfolio with several new brands, including Joan (a meeting room booking solution), OrbitSound (audio speakers), Genie CCTV and 2N (IP security solutions). The latter will be distributed by Midwich Security, its IP security arm (source: Mobile News United Kingdom).

Expansys shuts down consumer websites to focus on B2B drive

Mobility and consumer electronics specialist Expansys has closed its consumer websites for customers in nearly 40 countries, as the business focuses on its B2B offering. The online consumer electronics retailer, which offers products including mobile handsets, tablets and accessories from dozens of manufacturers, has ceased these operations for consumers across Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Americas, with a message on each of the websites informing visitors of the move. The consumer websites remain open for customers in 11 countries across the continents of Asia and Australasia, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Singapore. The B2B market in the EMEA region is covered from its offices in France, Italy and the United Kingdom. A statement from the online consumer electronics retailer said: "Expansys has been developing its e-commerce platform over the last few years to provide services to brands who want to drive a direct-to-consumer strategy. Furthermore the Expansys platform has also been developed to provide a B2B offering for brands and distributors alike utilising the global assets of Expansys. The websites trading as Expansys in UK, Europe and US have been closed to consumers as the business focusses on its software-as-a-service and B2B offering." (source: Mobile News United Kingdom)

Some information about Brightstar, CI Distribution, CMS Distribution, Data Select, Exertis, Nimans and Sahara Presentation Systems

British Isles: Dylan Price, who was sales manager for telephony specialist Brightstar, has left the company1. PC component and peripheral specialist CI Distribution has announced three new new partnerships with key players in the IT industry: Brother (rugged mobile printers), iKey (rugged keyboards, mice, display and pointing devices) and Mad Catz (gaming accessories). Scale Computing, an hyperconverged storage, server and virtualisation vendor, has unveiled a partnership with VAD CMS Distribution, which will be responsible for selling Scale Computing's HC3 hyperconvergence and virtualisation platform, across Ireland and the United Kingdom. After 11 years of business, lately as sales manager, Ian Miller has decided to leave telephony specialist Data Select1. The mobility division of broadliner Exertis has been chosen by STK as a distributor for its new line of handsets2. Telecom VAD Nimans has expanded its reseller training programme by hosting its first-ever event at a new support centre. The facility is part of the company's modern Trafford Park Trade Counter on the outskirts of Manchester, where Panasonic resellers brushed up on their technical skills as part of an inaugural three-day course. Finally, AV specialist Sahara Presentation Systems has extended its deal with Milestone AV Technologies to secure rights to distribute Chief mounts and brackets to resellers and integrators in the country. Sahara added Milestone's Da-Lite projection screens to its portfolio in February this year and will now offer the full range of Chief racks and AV accessories (source: PCR United Kingdom, Mobile News United Kingdom 1 and 2, inAVate United Kingdom).

Exertis set to sign up Alcatel in distribution deal

United Kingdom: the mobility division of broadliner Exertis is set to take its number of handset distribution agreements to 13, after holding talks with Alcatel. Negotiations between the companies are understood to be at an advanced stage having first begun two months ago. The deal, if agreed, would add to the ever increasing number of partnerships secured by Exertis since entering the handset space in 2008. These include Acer, Doro, Huawei, Kazam, Lenovo, LG, Medion, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, Wileyfox and ZTE. Like its Chinese rival Huawei, it has ambitions to usurp Sony to become the UK's third biggest handset manufacturer by sales. Alcatel already has existing distribution partnerships with Exertis' rivals; Brightstar, Data Select, Ingram Micro Mobility and Tech Data Mobile Solutions. It is unknown if any of these will be affected should a deal be completed. Exertis distributed a company record of 5.49 million handsets and accessories in its last financial year (source: Mobile News United Kingdom).

Distribution reviews for Sony and Webroot

United Kingdom: Sony Mobile has seemingly terminated its handset distribution deal with Data Select after more than a decade. The move ought to see Sony work exclusively with distribution rivals Brightstar and Exertis, whose agreements have both been renewed, following a month long review by the manufacturer as it looks to ramp up its share of the UK market which has steadily fallen in recent years. Sony is currently the third most popular manufacturer in the UK behind leaders Samsung and Apple, but has seen its share continue to drop in the UK in recent years to around 6.9 per cent down from 9.3 per cent a year ago. Similarly, Webroot has served notice on network VAD ISDG after completing its own UK distribution reviews. The cyber-security vendor is moving forward with three UK distributors - VADs Distology and Prianto and broadliner Northamber - after concluding its distribution skyline had become too busy (source: Mobile News United Kingdom and CRN United Kingdom).
